Let the child decide whether to approach, wave or watch. A trusted adult can stay nearby throughout.
Pick one spot with enough room and have an adult invite guests in small groups. Let the birthday child take the first turn if they wish.
Confirm reservation rules and whether the planned hired entertainment is permitted. A reservation alone may not answer that question.
A Rutherford birthday can start with a little breathing room: welcome the character while guests are seated, then let the birthday child choose a wave, a photo or a place beside a caregiver. Keep the first group activity easy to follow so younger guests can join without pressure. An organizer can help guests take turns and keep the photo area uncluttered. Ask us about the requested character theme, and confirm program details, cost and availability with our team.

As a city-scoped example within Indiana, Indy Parks provides permit guidance for private vendor sales. Indy Parks requires permits for private vendor sales. Tell the park what paid services, rentals or entertainment you propose, and check the applicable approval rather than treating all party activities as ordinary park use. This example applies only to Indianapolis's listed municipal facilities; other cities and state-managed parks have separate operators and rules. Confirm the exact venue's reservation process and permission for hired entertainment.

National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup.
