Start with a wave and a little space. Children can approach when ready, or simply watch.
Offer a choice between a photo, a wave or watching. Ask the character service which program ideas are possible.
Check venue permission, visit details, cost and availability directly. A request for a date is not a confirmed booking.
For a Shiloh, Virginia gathering, give the visit a quiet rhythm: a friendly greeting, a brief chance for children to respond, then photos or a simple group activity. Keep the character area easy to reach and let children participate at their own pace. The available facts provide statewide planning guidance, not verified Shiloh venues or policies. If considering a rental elsewhere in Virginia, check that exact operator's rules and confirm permission for hired entertainment before making plans.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
As a city-scoped example within Virginia, Alexandria municipal facilities provide different picnic-season and indoor rental options. Alexandria distinguishes its picnic season from year-round indoor rentals. For a party outside the picnic season, check an indoor reservation path and verify the actual opening hours of the chosen room. This example applies only to Alexandria's listed municipal facilities; other cities and state-managed parks have separate operators and rules. Confirm the exact venue's reservation process and permission for hired entertainment.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
